The real Guaraná

In Manaus, you can get the real Guaraná in juice bars and corner cafés, as well as at street stalls. As opposed to the sweet syrup used in carbonated Guaraná soft drinks, the proper stuff uses Guaraná powder which is added to water and blended with a whole range of other ingredients- including honey and lemon, mastruz (a local herb) and peanuts (for a meal in itself). The taste of the real thing is like nutmeg, and very energetic. Its the cappucino of the Amazon, addictive.
