About Twenty Two South

Twenty Two South is a travel blog and guide focusing on the great outdoors and areas of outstanding natural beauty in Brazil, Venezuela, Guyana and the Lesser Antilles. It is based on travels by Alexander Corrie between May 2010 and June 2011. Photographs and short texts make it enjoyable and easy-reading.

Locations include:
- Places with an incredible set of natural features (such as Ilha Grande, Dominica)
- Remote and wild areas for the true adventurer (Amazon, Guyana etc)
- Great wildlife-viewing locations (Pantanal wetlands and others)
- Charming, quiet and relaxing places to unwind in (such as the Grenadines)
- Cities and towns with a natural focus (Rio de Janeiro, Caribbean island capitals)
- Areas for active outdoors enthusiasts (all of the above, plus many more)

Topics include:

- Nature: rainforests, savannas, mountains, coastlines, coral reefs etc
- Botanic gardens, national parks and conservation areas
- Traditions, cultures and people associated with natural environments
- Outdoor sporting pursuits: hiking, climbing, sailing, surfing, scuba diving, skiing, kayaking
- Local culture: small-scale agriculture, natural foods, music, language

To help travellers, mini guides to the different areas have been produced. Included are recommended places to stay, restaurants, tour operators, as well as travel information. In terms of accommodation, personal favourites have been included, and these are generally privately-owned, small-scale, quality-focused and environmentally-sensitive.

Alexander Corrie is passionate about travel and the great outdoors- this is reflected in Twenty Two South. Alex grew up on a farm in Brazil, studied Geography at Oxford University and then went on to work in environmental conservation and up-scale ecotourism in Africa and the Indian Ocean islands. This was followed by marketing and business development in the tourism, wine and sports sectors in Europe and Brazil.

Twenty Two South begins in the stunning coastal and montane regions of the state of Rio de Janeiro. It then includes the incredible natural areas of the Pantanal and Amazon in Brazil, before heading up to the lost world of Mt Roraima in Venezuela. The journey continues north, through Amerindian villages in Guyana, reaching the Caribbean Sea in Georgetown. The final stretch is all about island-hopping through the wonderful Lesser Antilles- from St Kitts and Nevis to Dominica, St Vincent and the Grenadines, Grenada and St Lucia.

Enjoy the journey!
