Twenty minutes to St Kitts

View from the LIAT island hopper plane, as we approached Basseterre, capital of St Kitts, fifteen minutes after leaving St John's, Antigua.

On the runway at St Kitts International.

Only four of us disembarked. The few remaining passengers were heading up to the British Virgin Islands.

Sunrise over the hills of St Kitts. Interisland flights often left between six and seven in the morning.

A sugar mill converted to a house.

Historic and colourful buildings in Basseterre.

The market. Very little is grown on the island, being too rocky and having dry soils.  The lusher and more fertile Dominica and St Vincent provide much of the produce for the Caribbean islands.

The rocky coast of this volcanic island.

An abandoned sugar mill.

Overlooking the sea.

And Montserrat in the distance.

Around the island.

Ottley's Plantation Inn (I didn't stay here).

Flowering palm.

Vista of the mountains.

Just outside the grounds.

By the side of the road was a friendly group, drinking beer and selling barbequed chicken.

Togetherness.

View of the sister island of Nevis from Basseterre.
