Neighbours come for a visit.
From next door, Michael, Natalie and Nate walk to school.
Getting around the village.
Full-mouth bananas at the local store.
Sieves for mandioc flour, biscuits, sugar, rice- some of the things on sale.
Trees were laden with purple jamoon.
Young girls picking jamoon.
Natalie, at the desk with me, after school.
Michael, Nate and Vasco- my guides to the lake to go fishing.
Fishing and swimming from the rock in the lake.
Cool in my sunglasses.
Michael with his grand-mother, Veronica Allicock, who was cooking dinner when we got back.
Children saying a prayer just before lunch at Surama primary school. In one large building, there were several classes going on at the same time. The kids were well-dressed, well-behaved and eager to learn.
The queue for juice.
They were having a small market at the school to raise funds to buy some drinking water containers. I got there late, although there were still some of the best cinammon rolls I've had, along with a couple of coconuts, rice, bananas and a litre of local mandioc brew.
Back at Surama junction, the bus never came. I waited for hours in Madonna's hammock rondavel. Her grandson used the rondavel as his base too.
Drawing, playdough, then cycling.
The tractor returned from the forest with some logs, which are harvested sustainably. Greg had just started work with the village logging team.
Boyfriend and girlfriend on the back of the tractor, about to head back to Surama.
